... TO CONCENTRATE GOVERNMENT POWER IN THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT.
The following is from CCPJ President, Robert McAdams:
"I am gravely concerned by the actions of the Trump administration that began on January 20. Looking at those actions together reveals a rushed, systematic effort to concentrate all the power of the federal government in the office of the presidency.
These actions include:
- Unilateral freezing of federal funds, an action that usurps the authority of Congress to budget and appropriate funds.
- Firing 18 Inspectors General covering the major departments and agencies. This removed the watchdogs who would investigate malfeasance in those departments.
- Firing Department of Justice attorneys who prosecuted Donald Trump and also those who prosecuted the January 6th rioters.
- Beginning to purge from the FBI any agent or attorney who investigated either Donald Trump or the January 6th rioters. These actions send a warning to anyone in DOJ or the FBI not to investigate Donald Trump or his associates.
- Elon Musk seizing the databases from the Treasury Departments Federal Payment System, USAID, and the Office of Personnel Management.
"Commentators are calling these actions
a hostile takeover, or coup."
The Trump administration is rushing these illegal changes and others in order to complete the concentration of power before the public realizes what is happening. Commentators are calling these actions a hostile takeover, or coup.
My first ask is that everyone spread the word regarding these actions through whatever networks you have. Second, to slow this process, anyone of you with legal standing as a harmed party should join in lawsuits to halt these illegal actions. Third, we all should contact our senators to tell them to slow every senate process, especially confirmation of nominees, and to denounce this power grab.
Senator Warner’s phone number is (202) 224-2023.
Senator Kaine’s is (202) 224-4024.
Slowing the Trump administration’s scheme is necessary to allow time for public outcry to grow. Our nation has never faced a more pernicious threat within our government. We cannot have peace without justice, and both are in peril.
