"A taste of justice ..."

Statement from the CCPJ Board

... so said one of hundreds of activists who gathered Tuesday afternoon on the lawn of the Minnesota courthouse where Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all three counts of murder and manslaughter. "We have had a taste of justice."

She was specific in her relief. Finally justice has been achieved in this one case, and perhaps it marks a turning point in our criminal justice system and in the recognition that Black Lives Matter. George Floyd's life mattered.

But along with enormous relief in this one verdict is widespread determination that the work goes on.

One victory can bring more victories, and we Americans should have our eyes on that prize as we reimagine policing in our communities, and how it should go hand-in-hand with economic and social equality.

We are not finished, not by a long shot.

We are not finished!
