Description
John Rachel Mann, PhD, as she talks about the power of 9/11 to be a force for healing our planet:
On the morning of 9/11, my heart was torn open. Seemingly paradoxically, I walked around for several days resonating with deep love and compassion for all concerned: the perpetrators, victims, families and friends of victims, the United States, and the whole world. I am not a special person in any way. I am an ordinary woman who has maintained a spiritual practice drawn from the wisdom streams of Buddhism and Native American spirituality. Like all human beings in our age, I have had my fair share of conflict. I also have studied violence and its many manifestations from both academic and spiritual perspectives. It seems that for many reasons, in that moment, I was ready to hear and receive the deep potential of those tragic events for waking us up to the folly of violence as a solution to our problems. The recent shootings in Arizona have only deepened that message to all of us.
Join me in this lecture-workshop for Chrysalis in exploring the spiritual dimensions of violence and the opportunities for peace it opens up. We will energize through discussion and meditation an opening in our hearts in the wake of violence so that we can use its raw potential to catalyze our collective consciousness towards peace. Gandhi called this “soul force.” In shamanic and Native American traditions, it is called “power.” Not simply power to transform our own lives, but power to transform the very hearts and minds of the world. As M. K. Gandhi puts it: “What force is there that love cannot break?”

The New Dominion Bookshop will host Will Kaufman, author of the new book "Woody Guthrie, American Radical," for a music event/discussion. Kaufman utilized previously unseen materials--letters, song lyrics, personal reflections--from the Woody Guthrie Archives to present a heretofore unknown portrait of an artist whose influence continues today through Bob Dylan, Jeff Tweedy, and many others. 2012 is the 100th anniversary of Woody's birth.
For this FREE New Dominion event, Kaufman will perform a live musical documentary that will include performances of Guthrie songs and a discussion of his politics.
MOJO Magazine calls the book, "A fascinating look at Woody Guthrie's politics."

TAPPED: Environmental Impact of Bottled Water.
Is access to clean drinking water a basic human right, or a commodity that should be bought and sold like any other article of commerce? Stephanie Soechtig's debut feature is an unflinching examination of the big business of bottled water.
