Last night was the 30th Anniversary of the pedestrian Downtown Mall [1] in Charlottesville, Virginia [2]. Thousands of people came out to celebrate, and the Bush Chain Gang [3] joined them, to help pick up trash and clean walls.

Members of the Bush Chain Gang, supervised by the Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice [5], handed out these cards,

and these bumperstickers...

as they went along. We handed out stacks and stacks of them, plus flyers about this event [8]. You can get cards, stickers, shirts, and info on bringing the chain gang to your town here:

Last night the chain gang was stopped about 200 times to take photos with people...

And we made it into a big color photo on the front page of today's Daily Progress [13]. The weekly newspaper, The Hook [14], was there too. So were the TV stations.
